Oysters...Perhaps the Best Female Aphrodisiac

Female Aphrodisiac

Oysters have been known throughout the ages as perhaps the most potent female aphrodisiac. Along with foods for libido like asparagus, almonds, avocado, bananas, basil, chocolate, eggs, and figs, oysters have been hailed as one of nature’s finest aphrodisiacs.

But our modern culture has often rejected these claims to be old wives tales, putting more emphasis on the latest drugs to reclaim our sexual fire.female aphrodisiac

Old Wives Tales are Known for a Reason!

However, a new study by American and Italian chemists claims that oysters are in fact a potent female aphrodisiac. Their finding was presented at the American Chemical Society annual meeting in San Diego.

"The supposition for centuries was that oysters, clams and mussels have been thought to have aphrodisiac properties," said researcher George Fisher, a professor of chemistry from Barry University, in Miami Shores, Florida. "And they were eaten raw for that purpose."

Sexual hormones released

Until recently, there was no scientific basis for that belief, Fisher added. But what he and his colleagues have discovered is that oysters contain compounds called D-aspartic acid and NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate that have been shown to be effective in releasing sexual hormones such as testosterone and oestrogen.

"We found there might be a scientific basis for the aphrodisiac properties of these mollusks," Fisher said.

The History of Oysters

Oysters have been linked with love and sexuality for thousands of years.

female aphrodisiacThe word "aphrodisiac" was born when Aphrodite, the Greed goddess of love, sprang forth from the sea on an oyster shell and promptly gave birth to Eros. Because Aphrodite was said to be born from the sea, many types of seafood have reputations as aphrodisiac.

Many ancient people believed in the so-called "law of similarity," reasoning that an object resembling genitalia may possess sexual powers. Figs and oysters are two good female aphrodisiac examples.

Back in second century A.D., a satire by Juvenal, a Roman satirist, mentioned that the Romans documented oysters as an aphrodisiac food. In fact, Juvenal wrote about the reckless ways of women after they had ingested wine and ate "giant oysters."

In addition, it is well known that oysters are jammed packed with zinc sex drive. Today our diets are extremely deficient in this potent libido boosting nutrient, so eating foods that contain zinc, such as oysters is extremely essential. In addition to its ability to increase libido naturally, zinc is important for overall health and wellbeing.
