Low Sex Drive Women and DHEA

Research has shown that low levels of DHEA are associated with low sex drive women, and taking DHEA supplements can help boost female sex drive.

While there are many things that can contribute to women and libido problems, this vital but relatively unknown hormone can play a significant role. When levels of Dehydroepiandrosterone, also known as DHEA become low, it is often low sex drive in women. 

Professor Susan Davis, the research director of Melbourne's Jean Hailes Foundation, tested the blood of 1400 women in order to discover whether there was a link between low sex drive women and either DHEA or testosterone.  Testosterone deficiency libido loss has been associated for many years.low-sex-drive-women

Strangely, Davis said "We couldn't find any associations between low sexual function and testosterone but we found that women with low sexual drive had a very strong likelihood of having low DHEA, so low DHEA appears to be a marker of low sexual function in women.”

The amount of DHEA and testosterone both decline with as women get older, however, the study revealed that women with low libidos under the age of 45 may experience a much steeper decline.

This low sex drive women libido loss can cause a her to wonder why she is losing sex drive.  "A woman with low libido will go to the doctor and say 'I don't know if it's because I'm tired, I don't know if it's because I'm stressed, but doctor, would hormone treatments help me?'," Prof Davis said.

DHEA replacement is available in the US, where it is often used by athletes to boost testosterone levels, but as with hormone replacing drugs, can come with side effects.  It may be worth investigating how to increase libido naturally.  Here are some of the most common ways.

Try to eat more foods to increase libido, as they are generally good hormone balancers.
