How to Treat Menopause and Sex Drive

Menopause and sex drive loss can occur.  In the years leading up to the menopause, the level of oestrogen, which is one of the most important female sex hormones, begins to decrease.  Menopause can be what causes low libido.

As the amount of oestrogen is lessened, symptoms can include:menopause and libido

  • Vaginal Dryness: the vagina and vulva (the vaginal opening) may become a dryer
  • The breasts may lose some of their bulk
  • The skin may become a less elastic, so wrinkles are more likely to form.
  • Hot flushes
  • Sweating attacks.
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of libido in women

However, there are many women who do not experience any negative symptoms of menopause.  When the body is healthy and the hormones are balanced, sailing through menopause is very possible.

Menopause and Sex Drive

While menopause can signify a lack of libido in women, this is not necessarily the case by any means. A significant number of women continue to enjoy a thriving libido and an energetic sex life for many years after the menopause.

Some women even claim that they are more
orgasmic after the menopause, and are even more likely to experience multiple orgasms.

This could be due to the fact that women no longer need to worry about birth control and libido, which can have a negative impact.  Women are also more sexually confident, and more likely to have a man who knows what they are doing.

Menopause can cause lack of libido in women for many reasons:

  • Night sweats and hot flushes can make a woman uncomfortable and out of the mood.  
  • Relative oestrogen deficiency can bring about vaginal dryness and thinning of the vaginal lining.  This lack of lubrication and support for the vaginal walls can reduce arousal during sex, and sometimes even cause soreness, burning or irritation.
  • Irregular periods can make the timing of spontaneous love-making difficult.
  • Urinary incontinence can occasionally arise during love-making or orgasms for menopausal women.  
  • Loss of libido can occur after the change.  Some women even say that their sex drive is completely gone.
  • Psychological symptoms such as mood swings, insomnia and depression can make it difficult to enjoy sex.

However, these menopause and sex drive problems can be rectified in many ways.

There are many good herbs for menopause and sex drive including black Cohosh, Maca and Red Clover.  There are also some great libido enhancing herbs.

Diet

Women who have a healthy diet and eat plenty of foods to increase libido are less likely to experience negative menopausal symptoms or lose their sex drive.

All women should ensure that their bodies are nourished with sex drive vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

Increase Physical Activity

Exercising for 1/2 hour a day helps with overall well being and increases certain hormones levels that are associated with menopause. Being active has been shown to increase health during menopause. There are also benefits to exercises for libido.

Reduce Stress

Stress can make the symptom of menopause worse. It is important that women find effective ways to relax when they are going through this period of life. Meditation, relaxation techniques, yoga, and massage are some of the best ways to relax the body.
