Women and Libido Loss

Women and libido loss is far from an uncommon complaint.  If you find that your sex drive has diminished, you are not alone.  It is not only a common problem, but it is often not discussed.  Many women find in incredibly embarrassing to talk about. The way that our culture glamorizes sex in an unrealistic and often negative light makes many women feel that they must be the only ones who don’t find it incredibly enjoyable.  women and libido

Most women who experience low libido are in their 30s and early 40s.  It is important that each woman discover what causes low libido in their individual circumstance.  It can be a huge mix of factors, from the physical to the emotional.  Dr Regent, a prominent gynecologist in London says that while what causes low libido tends to be physical for men, it is often emotional for women.

Hormones and Libido

Hormonal changes are also often at the root of women and libido loss. There can be a loss (or sometimes gain) of sex drive during pregnancy.  After childbirth, many women experience a decrease in libido. This can be due to exhaustion and lack of time and energy.  Menopause and sex drive loss can be another common connection.

Beliefs, Women and Libido

It is essential that women realize that it is perfectly healthy and normal for them to have a thriving libido and an exciting sex life.  Many women still believe that it is not lady like for them to fantasize and desire sex. They think that this is more the man’s role, and they are simply there to be a vehicle for his sex drive.  This may seem off the wall to you, but you might be surprised just how common this belief is, even if it is subconscious. There are many religious groups that actually still preach this at some level.

Relationship problems

Discussing your lack of libido with your partner is extremely important. If you don't feel comfortable talking to your partner, make a list of things you could do together to make sex more enjoyable. These may include massage, kissing, oral sex etc.

Ensure that your partner does not feel rejected, but realizes that this is a problem that can be rectified.  Talking about it will make open up your relationship and increase intimacy and sharing.

If the root of your lack of libido is your relationship, counseling can be extremely beneficial for women and libido boosting.
