Birth Control and Womens Low Sex Drive

Could Your Birth Control being Causing Womens Low Sex Drive?

Birth control has revolutionized our sex lives.  We are able to enjoy as much sex as we want with our partner without the fear of producing babies (and hopefully we are all with someone who doesn’t make us fear sexually transmitted diseases!)

The problem with some birth control options is that they actually cause lack of libido in women.  It is a sad irony that what has caused us to freely enjoy sex whenever we want it can also mean us losing sex drive.  women-low-sex-drive

And womens low sex drive is not the only problem created by birth control.  Altering hormones can have profound effects in many ways. Since all hormones are interconnected, changing one can change all of them…and the side effects can be massive.  Candida (yeast overgrowth), fatigue, mood swings and lowered immune system are just a few problems that can result from messing with your hormones.

But on Raise Libido, we are focusing on how it causes womens low sex drive. While all women will react differently to a particular contraceptive, losing sex drive will pretty much make the whole thing useless anyway. I mean the point is to keep from getting pregnant and while still maintaining a spicy sex life…not by giving up sex because you’re not in the mood.

Here is a list of some of the birth control methods that can cause lack of libido in women, and some alternatives which allow your rampant side to shine through as nature intended.

The Pill

The birth control pill has long been known to steal a woman’s sex drive. Many forms of the birth control pill can cause testosterone deficiency libido.  Testosterone is responsible for our lustful urges and ability to enjoy lovely orgasms.

Some women find that they can boost female libido by switching to another brand.  However, for optimum health and wellbeing, and insuring against womens low sex drive, keep your hormones balanced.

IUD(intrauterine device)

IUDs are inserted into the uterus, rendering the egg unable to embed itself in the womb. There are two types of IUDs.  One is a copper coil, which does not create imbalanced hormones or cause low sex drive women, although it can cause increased cramping and heavier bleeding.

The other type of IUD is called Mirena.  Mirena releases synthetic hormones that can cause womens low sex drive and a whole range of other lack of health issues (mentioned above).

 Injections and Implants

Two other types of libido reducing contraception are injections and implants. The injection requires a monthly visit to the doctor’s office, while the implant is there without any hassle…apart from the fact that you might not have any desire to fool around and you might feel completely horrible.

Types of Female Contraception that don’t change your hormone levels and aren’t what causes low libido include:

  • Condom
  • Female Condom
  • Diaphragm
  • Copper Coil (as mentioned above)
  • Spermicidal gel
  • The rhythm method

And remember that what will keep you from pushing the stroller will not keep you from contracting various forms of sexually transmitted diseases.
